It's Teddy Bear Day!
Every year September 9th is celebrated world-wide as Teddy Bear Day. Nobody is quite sure how this particular date came about, but it could be to do with the 100th anniversary of the creation of the teddy bear.
Once upon a time
It's not quite a 'once upon a time' story, but it's an interesting one. The humble Teddy Bear was created around the beginning of the 20th century by toymakers Morris Michton.
In 1902 the people of America people were fascinated by a story in the media involving President Teddy Roosevelt and bears. Michtom decided to create a small version of a black bear and sent it with a note to the President. He asked for permission to use Teddy Roosevelt’s name to call the bear 'Teddy’s Bear'. Permission was grant and the bears became an immediate success. Coincidentally, the world-famous, and now very collectable 'Steiff' bears were also being made in Germany around the same time. So they also became known as Teddy Bears.
Celebration
At Hot Tubs In France we don't really need an excuse to have a party. (Everyday is a reason to celebrate when you own your own hot tub!) But seeing as September 9th is a special day for all teddy bear owners, me and Tim included, then we are going celebrate in style.
Perhaps we will take our favourite teddy bears out for a picnic and go down to the woods.
Or maybe not.
